It’s been a bit busy on the site this weekend. There was my first YouTube effort, a round-up of Barcelona’s exploits, a new (hopefully) helpful page for those interested in my personal travel advice, and a new showcase of Barcelona photography. I’ve always watched Wild Cherry (2009), Limitless and Priest. The only decent one was Limitless. Oh, and I made this video.

There’s a lot said for Instagram and similar iPhone services. They’re destroying photography!, cynics cry. They’re nothing but a gimmick! On the contrary, they’re extremely popular and introducing people into photography. Yes, fancy filters reduce the skill required for photography, but at the end of the day, sharing the passion is more important than how you capture an image. Times change, deal with it.

Anyway, above is an Instagram shot – one I’d not have captured on my standard camera because it was a fleeting sky. Go figure.

Surprise! I have a new camera. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, my beloved Nikon D5000 was taken from me. Alas, don’t pine because it means I now have a shiny new D7000 with a 18-110mm kit lens! Hurray! After what seems like months (it was months), I’ve got the real urge to get back into photography. Today was the first day I had to play with it and I’m pretty pleased with the results. It’ll take a while before I get back into the swing of things (and before I get to grips with it), but it seems like it won’t be long before I shake off the rust.

I should stop discussing Cannes now. It was ages ago. Anyway, as is customary my visit was accompanied by my camera. I’ve just finished processing the work and it can be found in a mini showcase here. Enjoy, and of course, any feedback is always appreciated. So having processed over 4,000 photos and tidied up the entities, The Japan Travel Diary 2011 is finished. Don’t know what it is? Check it out here – it’s pretty self explanatory. It was created to chronicle the way I changed over the solo-trip, and as a helpful resource for anyone who may choose to visit the wonderful country themselves.

It’s packed with helpful sightseeing suggestions, things to eat, places to stay – all the while supported by the photography I took.

All I can say is enjoy, and roll on Nepal 2012. Oh, I never mentioned that – Nepal –  2012 – Me.
