Day 15 – Nara

11.00AM, Nara Park – The deer, which roam free in Nara Koen, are eyeing up my bento box. It’s scorching today, probably near 30 degrees in the sun – not a cloud in the sky.

3.08PM, Nara JR Station – What a nice day, bar the heat. The majority of Nara’s sights are in the park making it easy to see in a day. Aside from an impressive treasure museum and five story pagoda, Nara’s most famous for its Buddah, the largest in the country (I’d already seen the second largest in Kamakura). The more impressive thing about it is the temple it is housed in, Todai-Ji. It’s absolutely massive and it dwarfs everything I’ve seen so far. To consider its age is mind boggling – it’s hard to get its scale across in photographs.

I also looked round a really nice garden which had a water wheel. All in all a really nice day, but I’m quite tired as I had a restless sleep – I shall do Osaka-Jo and the aquarium tomorrow. Oh and I caved and had some KFC – better chips over here, worse everything else.
