Day 8 – Bamboo River Boats

Retrospectively Written on 3rd May, Kyoto – I had an awesome day on the 2nd May. I bumped into Anna and Rachel a couple nights ago, before we eventually agreed to go to the Sagano area.
With an American chap called Michael Powers in tow, the four of us grabbed a bus to Arishiyama where the famous bamboo grove is. We wandered through that and even got a glimpse of an assistant Geisha, a Maiko.
After that, we climbed a monkey mountain that was a sanctuary. At the top there was a cracking view of the whole of Kyoto and the monkeys themselves were really cool. You could feed them if you wanted to.
Lunch followed at a rice bowl restaurant – Michael then had to split to grab a train back to the island he was teaching English on. The three of us then went two stops north on the train to grab a river boat.

That was awesome, it slowly wound down through a leafy valley with the odd rapid thrown in for good measure. It was a fantastic experience that capped off a great day.
We then went and grabbed some Sushi downtown – it was nice – I avoided the peculiar looking dishes. We’re all going out again before we all head off tomorrow, Anna and Rachel to Nagoya and me to Hiroshima.
