Discovering Torchlight

As mentioned in PC Zone I have a soft spot for dungeon crawlers. Ever since Kevin Malone introduced me to Titan Quest (which if you’ve never played, you really need to…), I’ve been hooked to anything that revolves around randomly generated dungeons and loot. The signs were there with World of Warcraft (close to 600 hours played) and earlier single player RPG, Divine Divinity. Sadly, dungeon crawlers are a rare breed nowadays. I don’t have time for MMOs any more and while I wait for Blizzard’s Diablo III to come along, there’s very few others to play.
That’s why, having stumbled across Torchlight in today’s Steam sale (for under £4), I was amazed that I’d never picked it up before. The art style reminds me a lot of NCsoft’s doomed MMO, Dungeon Runners. Having taken a break from games (following my burnout from Fallout New Vegas), it was nice to come across something that was unsuspectingly brilliant. The developers, Runic Games, have really hit the nail on the head (although it shouldn’t really come as a surprise considering the team behind Torchlight are ex-Diablo I and II veterans).
I’m currently playing a level 12 Destroyer and I’ve just passed The Overseer quest. Is anyone playing it / played it in the past? It’d be great to hear everyone’s thoughts. It’s sure to keep me busy while I await Grim Dawn, the follow up game by the minds behind Titan Quest.
On a semi-related note, my reviews of Dance Central and Football Manager should be surfacing in the next couple days.

I’m surprised I haven’t played Torchlight yet. Also, Grim Dawn thoughts make me moist.
I’m actually looking more forward to that than I am Diablo III at this point.
I really am surprised you’ve never tried it Kev, you’d love it so much!
I will get around to it eventually. I think it just came around at a time with loads of big releases so I forgot about it.
BUY IT NOW, although, there is no co-op
Yeah I noticed there’s no co-op. Something that WILL be included with Grim Dawn I assume…
Hopefully! I can’t wait for that game!
Torchlight 2 is coming out this Spring, and will be immensely bigger than Torchlight 1, AND will include Co-op
Fantastic! I look forward to it!
